FRENCH SHORTS
MARIELLE ET BARNABE WOULD
LIKE TO HAVE ONE
a cinema parallel release
Cinema Parallel is proud to present a collection of recent French shorts.
LA VIS ...by Didier
Flammand won the Caesar for best French short in 1995. It stars JEAN RENO
(The Professional) as a character as far removed from his recent roles as
can be imagined.
MARIELLE ET BARNABE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ONE is by Laurent Benegui
(director of the recent Paris feature hit Au Petit Marguery).
The before mentioned couple would like to have a child... the trials
and tribulations of the process are humorously explored with a wicked
sense of farce.
MANIVELL by Daniel Cattan explores the dangerous
excesses and obsessions of a movie fan with a bit too much affection for
a passing star.
COUNTDOWN the first film directed by Gael Morel (the
young star of WILD REEDS) shows a flash of real dramatic talent in this
exploration of the hard but caring relationship between two wild sons and
a middle class father.
HANGING ON FOR DEAR LIFE by
Jean-Luc Gaget is the sort of breezy French comedy that somehow Americans
never seem to get right. A young man tries to kill himself but never quite
gets it right.
DEUS EX MACHINA by Vincent Mayrand is a journey into
the mind of a machine... in particular a photo booth in a European railway
station of the near future.
